Can a representative from AWTS come to me?
We do prefer if you may book appointments to avoid disappointment, we offer the flexibility of our staff coming to your office or home at any time that suits you.
When do I have to lodge my tax return?
Individuals may lodge until 31 October. (Not using a registered tax Agent.)
Individuals can lodge up until the following year, depending on their individual circumstances (when using a registered tax agent).
Businesses have until 31st October. If you have in excess of $2M in aggregate, you have further extensions.
Fringe Benefits Tax Returns cut off is 31st March, and you have two months from this date for payment and lodgement.
Super Funds – Self managed cut-off date is 28th February.
I’m leaving to travel overseas; do I need to complete my tax return before I leave?
Depending on the dates of lodgement above, you must comply with these cut off dates.
What happens when I have more than one return outstanding?
You should lodge your outstanding tax returns as soon as possible and before the Australian Taxation Office takes any action to have you lodge these tax returns. Once they’ve begun any action, it could result in a court conviction. The ATO may charge a penalty of $110 for every 28 days that the return is outstanding. The maximum penalty is $550.
How do I complete a tax return without a PAYMENT summary (or GROUP Certificate)?
A Statutory Declaration may be needed and a letter from your employer. If your employer has been wound up or is in liquidation we may fill out a Statutory Declaration. Please bring all bank statements of where your pay was deposited so we can work out the appropriate tax.
Do I need to provide details of my other half when completing a tax return?
YES! You must provide all corresponding details. You may be eligible for some tax offsets and a reduction in Medicare levies or Surcharge.
Do I need to bring Private Health Insurance (PHI) paper work?
The health insurer usually sends a tax year-end statement as at 30 June. Please bring this along with you. There is also another statement that people are usually not aware of – the yearly tax statement for Out of Pocket Expenses, which entails medical or ancillary options you may have paid under the policy. This statement can contribute to the Medical tax offset within your return.
Do I need my Medicare Number or Card to complete a tax return?
If you are claiming the above Medical tax offset, it is best practice to maximise the Medical Tax Offset.
A family member has passed away. Do I need to complete a tax return for them?
Firstly, we need to apply for new tax file number. We also need to lodge a tax return to date of death, and then we file, complete and lodge a return for the estate of the family member, even if it is NIL.
I’m having medical/ visiting the chiropractor/physiotherapist can I claim anything on my tax return?
A net medical expenses offset is available where you and your dependants have incurred out-of-pocket medical expenses in excess of $1500. Eligible expenses include doctors’ fees, hospital accommodation and related charges, dental work, medicines, etc. Where procedures are of a cosmetic nature only, they won’t be eligible expenses that can be included in the calculation of this offset. If the dental work you’re having is for the correction of a problem then the cost incurred will be counted towards the out-of-pocket expenses for this offset.
How can I check if I have any lost super?
We are financial Planners as well so we can assist in consolidating your super all in the one account.
You can refinance, consolidate all debts and re-borrow, if you’re eligible to do so. yYu do not have to a participating tax client to use this service, and it is independent and unbiased, especially when it comes to advice.
Why do you charge per schedule and not a set rate for tax returns?
With years of experience, we have found that clients usually pay for tax returns in excess of what they should really be paying for their tax return, so we have devised a system, were we charge you a set rate per schedule within your return. So, how long is a piece of string? Well as many investments and as many deductions as you have or don’t have, that’s the only price you will pay, and you do not pay because we are a member of this or that institution.
This way, we go over your tax return with fine toothcomb, and search and ask you, every possible question under the sun. We love to see you smile, when we achieve the best results.
Do I have to be present when I’m completing my tax return?
Due to technology, we can ask you every question either via email, phone fax, or video conferencing, allowing you to time manage. We can complete your tax return from any side of the globe. We are here to HELP you. You will need to sign and send your return in or a scanned copy sent to us via email.
I’m a traveler, on a working visa,and my friends got money back from for super. Will i get my money back too?
Every individual is different. There are many scam artists out there promising many schemes and big dollar $ refunds,.Please be aware that the Tax Office is cracking down on these type of peopl – usually unregistered preparers.
Please call us if in doubt. Always check to see if they have a Certificate of Registration from the tax agents board in your stat. If in doubt, look them up on the tax agents board site. If their name doesn’t correspond to what’s on the certificate, please report them.
May I amend my return, if i think my previous tax agent has made a mistake, or if i have made a mistake?
Yes you may. You have nine times, and you may change or amend your tax return within a two year period from the date of lodgement.
Can I claim a Spouse Tax Offsets if I don’t have a partner or de facto spouse?
It is illegal to place someone’s name if they are legally not your spouse or partner and claiming the offset.
My previous tax agent has asked for money, whereby they place someone they know as my spouse, should I allow this to happen?
No, this is illegal.
